Vince Cuadra is a queer-trans Costa Rican-Argentinian multimedia artist born and raised in the county of Dade. He is heavily influenced by his loud, maximalist, kitschy, Miami upbringing as well as cartoons he grew up watching and folk art. Throughout his teen years, he embedded himself in South Florida’s creative community; participating in several local DIY art shows, interning at local art spaces and assisting/interning for various local established artists. In 2017, at 14 years old, Vince developed an ongoing street art project where he publicly displays colorful clay faces, AKA “Clay Bombing”, making his art accessible to public viewership without limitations or permission. Growing up with a photographer grandpa who drilled the importance of documentation at every family gathering, and witnessing Miami rapidly changing whilst being a nostalgic person, Vince found importance in archival work and preservation. He always had access to cameras and drew inspiration from documentary photgraphy, street photography and more personally from family photos. Through his photography, Vince captures fleeting moments with photos often taken spontaneously of things and people--mostly people--that catch his attention, make him laugh, and inspire him. He also sometimes creates illustrative images using eccentric costumes, face paint and pattern-heavy set design. In 2022, he spent a summer in San Juan Island, WA, as a resident at ‘Alchemy Art Center’ where he spent his time using their ceramics and printmaking facilities. He fell in love with creating fun and sculptural household items using ceramics and upon his return, he signed up for ceramics classes at Miami Dade College. In Vince’s daily routine, he expresses himself through sculptural hairstyles and color coordinated outfits. Vince has also played saxophone since middle school.
